Very patient when we were deciding to use them or not. Very easy and fast setup. When the phones came I called them and once they were in to my computer they did all the setup for me – didn’t take long.

Several issues that I faced…

Several issues that I faced: 1. Voice quality is not at all great as it used to be and called party needs to be called again and again. 2. Some particular numbers will never be connected as there wont be any voice transmission in either direction. No luck even after following with them for months and wasted so many crucial hours without any resolution. 3. Billing system is screwed up as you would always be paying in advance and no pro -rated cancellation. 4. Very expensive, Try using whatsapp, Dial91, Lyca mobile etc….If you explore there are bunch of options available.

Customer support is awful…

Customer support is awful. Brayanne T (the person assigned to help me set up service) was of no help and rude. A few months after establishing service, I encountered an issue with the fax service. Specifically, clients were not able to send faxes. After more than 40 minutes on the phone and three customer service representatives, the issue is still not resolved. Time to find another provider!

I believe the most difficult part…

I believe the most difficult part of the Vonage service is the web based dashboard. I have found time after time the results to a task which I spend long periods of time with phone based technical support are often very easy. So in my opinion, improving the intuitive ease of the website would be a game changer for Vonage.

Pros: Great pricing, easy plug and play.
Cons: Long wait for technical phone support. SSometimes tech support gives you two answers for the same problem. The website is difficult to navigatev y.

Provider Overview

Vonage was one of the first major players in VoIP. Vonage was in development in early 2000, and was first introduced to US consumers in partnership with Circuit City in 2004. Vonage was created by Jeff Pulver, an Internet pioneer and investor. Pulver had previously created one of the first Voice over Internet applications, known as Free World Dialup. After several successful years, they went public in 2006. In the years that followed, they introduced a plug-in for Facebook, iOS and Android apps, international calling plans, and in 2013 they acquired Vocalocity, a fast-growing business VoIP provider. Vonage now uses the platform developed by Vocalocity, in addition to its other resources (i.e., its staff and its customer base) under the name Vonage Business.

Vonage Business Solutions offer a powerful platform that integrates other web-based tools, including search engines and social media, so that agents can have as much information about the caller as possible as soon as the phone rings. Vonage was one of the first to offer integration with other software, a feature that nearly all other providers now also include.

Best for:
Businesses that are interested in or already have accounts with other customer management services (salesforce, SugarCRM, etc). Or, any organization that needs a phone for occasional use, because metered plans are uncommon in hosted VoIP plans.

Editor’s Bottom Line:
Vonage once had a much less powerful platform suitable for some small businesses. They scrapped that in 2013 when they acquired Vocalocity, which was a smart choice. Vocalocity, despite being small, had one of the most powerful platforms, and many of the features they had early on are now mainstream. They are more on the expensive side, and part of why they can command a higher price is the name recognition.

One thing that sets Vonage Business apart is metered extensions. Although unlimited calls are great for most businesses, some phone aren’t used every day, and it wouldn’t be worth the expense to have a full line for the $25-$50 it takes for most VoIP providers to give you an extension. All calls within an organization are included, so if you have an office that makes mostly internal calls, this one is a good option. Similarly, instead of feature tiers, you can add or pass on many of the premium features. When you make your first call, you can be satisfied that you got the best price for your needs.

All Available Plans:

  • $39.99/seat/mo: Unlimited calls; see below for features
  • $14.99/virtual extension (calls forwarded to mobile phone)
  • $14.99/seat/mo: Calls are $0.03/min. Good for infrequently-used extensions; see below for features
