AI Companion’s persistent side panel lets users ask questions in a ChatGPT-style format, giving admins and agents digestible insights based on data from Zoom Workplace and integrated applications. Users can catch up on meetings, get summaries of real-time or recent activity, and review the specific sources AI Companion used to generate side panel responses.
Which Zoom Plans Include AI Companion?
AI Companion is included in all paid Zoom Workplace plans, though specific features vary by pricing tier.
All Zoom Phone plans (unlimited and metered) include all Zoom AI Companion capabilities. While Zoom Webinar does not include AI Companion, Zoom Sessions and Zoom Events both include full AI Companion functionality.

Zoom AI Companion for Zoom Meetings
Given that Zoom got its start as a video meeting platform, it’s no surprise that AI Companion features for Zoom Meetings are especially robust.
AI Companion uses existing Zoom data to draft meeting agendas and relevant meeting documents. In addition to live meeting transcription, AI Companion provides real-time meeting summaries and automated notes. This way, meeting latecomers can catch up on what they’ve missed, see if their name was mentioned, and review tasks.
Complete post-meeting summaries provide recaps, suggested tasks/next steps, and centralize relevant attachments. Hosts can share summaries with other team members via email or team chat, add notes, and use meeting summaries to further customize AI Companion.
Smart Recording from Zoom AI Companion creates highlight reels from meeting transcription and recordings, organizes meetings into chapters, and provides insight into meeting talk-listen ratios and speed.
Zoom AI Companion for Zoom Phone
As with Zoom Meetings, AI Companion for Zoom Phone enables real-time call transcription and gives agents real-time and post-call summaries with suggested next steps. Once the call is complete, agents can edit or add notes and share summaries.
AI Companion also reviews voicemail messages to automatically prioritize customer callbacks and extract tasks from messages. It even works for business text messaging, providing SMS thread summaries.
Zoom AI Companion for Zoom Mail
Zoom Mail users can use AI Companion to compose, edit, and reply to emails. To generate an email, users can either write their own draft or prompt AI Companion with what they want the email to say.
From there, users can have Zoom AI generate a completely new email response, edit the existing AI-generated prompt, or send the email. Zoom AI Companion also automatically generates subject lines.
As of this writing, Zoom AI Companion for email is available only in English.
Zoom AI Companion For Team Chat and Collaboration
All Zoom paid plans include advanced team chat messaging and collaboration tools powered by AI Companion.
AI Companion can summarize and catch users up on long message threads, saving employees time while ensuring they don’t miss out on essential information. It can also automatically compose and edit entire chat messages, or offer shorter suggestions via sentence completion.
Quick Schedule analyzes chat message content to suggest, and schedule video meetings.
AI Companion also generates content for virtual whiteboards based on uploaded documents, prompts, comments, and historical data. Teams can use AI Companion to organize content into whiteboard sticky notes, tables, mind maps, and more. As with Zoom Docs, users can automatically edit whiteboard content to adjust tone and length. Users can share and collaborate on whiteboards inside and outside of meetings.
AI Companion for Zoom Clips lets users create personalized avatars that read uploaded video scripts, eliminating the need for manual video recording.
Zoom AI Companion for Zoom Docs
Zoom Docs, available during and outside of Zoom video meetings, lets users create, edit, collaborate, and share documents. Zoom AI Companion leverages Generative AI to automate and optimize the content creation process.
If creating a file from scratch, users can choose from pre-made file templates for press releases, blog posts, sales pitches, employee handbooks, case studies, and more. Zoom AI Companion can even create documents from meeting content, internal knowledge bases, wikis, and additional business data.
Once the content is generated, AI Companion automates the editing process by letting users adjust tone and document length, simplify or translate the language, clarify points, and rewrite specific sections or all of the document.
AI Companion lets up to 100 users simultaneously co-edit documents in real time, during and outside of meetings. During the collaborative editing process, users can tag each other, add comments, set temporary or permanent permissions, share documents across Zoom Workplace, and create dedicated wikis from related files.
Additional Zoom Docs features enhanced with Zoom AI Companion include:

Tasks monitors activity across Zoom Workplace to identify, create, assign, and even complete new tasks and follow-ups. Tasks even creates tasks from integrated third-party tools like calendars. Users can set and adjust deadlines, automate routine workflows, monitor project progress, and more.
As of this writing, Zoom Tasks is set to be launched soon.
Zoom AI Companion for Zoom Contact Center
Zoom Contact Center includes all Zoom Workplace AI Companion features, but expands to provide high-level conversational analytics, agent coaching, and WFM automation.
The Zoom AI Expert Assist feature, available with the Elite CCaaS plan, provides omnichannel, in-conversation next-best-action suggestions to agents. Expert Assist pulls data from knowledge cases and integrated third-party platforms like CRM systems, evaluates customer sentiment and intent, and offers concise solutions without app switching. Agents can use the Smart Compose feature to automatically generate and edit responses to real-time customer queries. These responses can also be used to optimize virtual agent responses.
AI Companion transcribes and translates live customer-agent conversations into 20+ languages, automatically assigns dispositions, takes call notes, and generates a post-conversation summary with follow-up tasks. It also leverages smart routing to connect customers to the best available agent across channels.
To enhance Zoom Contact Center’s built-in agent coaching tools, AI Companion analyzes agent performance, talk speed, and talk length in real time. Agents can ask Zoom AI Companion to provide them with specific, data-backed ideas for how to improve their performance. Soon, Zoom will offer additional AI-powered WFM and QM features like shift bidding, employee surveys, agent engagement insights, and a virtual agent for Zoom Phone.
Zoom AI Companion for Zoom Events
In addition to Zoom Workplace and Zoom Contact Contact Center, Zoom AI Companion is also available with Zoom Sessions (from $114/user/month) and Zoom Events (from $164/user/month.)
The Smart Compose feature automatically generates speaker bios, event and session descriptions, email invitations, in-event chat messages, and more. Virtual event admins can choose from four different versions of generated text, edit tone and length, or have Zoom AI Companion re-write the content completely.
Zoom AI Companion uses GenAI to create event-specific images based on user prompts or custom commands. Users can edit existing images within the content library, adjust aspect ratios and style, and refine prompts. These images can be added to event emails, presentations, and other content.

Zoom has continued to demonstrate its commitment to building consumer trust, particularly by announcing that customer communications and content is not used to train Zoom AI Companion or third-party AI models without customer consent.[*]
Additionally, Zoom admins can enable/disable individual Zoom AI Companion features and set specific user permissions. Zoom users can opt for a Zero Data Retention policy to ensure transcripts, shared OCR content, and in-meeting chat messages are deleted immediately after Meeting Summary creation.
