Zoom is one of those communications platforms that rightfully receives a lot of press thanks to how comprehensive it is. Zoom has gained a reputation as being one of the first communications solutions on the market that had a laser focus on providing a high definition experience for both audio and video conferencing. This week, the company has announced plans to further augment its service features when it comes to chat, conferencing, and calling.
Zoom’s software is already a significant player in the web conferencing arena, and the company has a history of consistently releasing new features and quickly shoring up any issues. With this latest update, Zoom Chat, Zoom Meetings and Webinars, and Zoom Phone have all received upgrades that are guaranteed to streamline processes and augment collaboration within organizations.
Zoom Phone Has Powerful Collaborative Messaging
Companies like Zoom understand that most organizations want to enhance their unified communications profiles so that employees can easily communicate with their teams. UCaaS technology that allows for chat is particularly popular because chat is quick and easy to use without disrupting workflows.
Now, with this latest update to Zoom Chat, users will be able to quickly reply or add reactions to preexisting messages. This interface improves user experience by allowing simple icons or a simple line of text. This kind of add-on feature makes communications quicker, and it also makes it easy for multiple users to chat together in the office or through their mobile devices.
In addition, @all mentions will allow users to send out a virtual “blast” via the cloud platform to members of a team. This can work with teams of more than 1,000 members, so this is very useful for collaboration as well as project or product management. This is enhanced by a new broadcast feature that allows users to broadcast messages to specific user groups or teams.
Other social functionalities like @mentions and _channel are also available so that users can refer to a coworker by name or reach out in specific channels with ease.
Finally, the contact profile feature has also been upgraded. When messaging a fellow team member, simply mousing over their name will reveal their job title, their department, and location. This feature is managed and set up by admins via SAML mapping, but it adds an excellent level of identification for teams, and each team member can manually update their info.
Conferencing and Webinar Tool Upgrades
Audio and video conferencing are some of the most critical features in a unified communications tool like Zoom, so it shouldn’t be surprising that the company would want to continuously augment the features available in Zoom Meetings.
With the newest update, screen sharing can be limited to the application. This is particularly useful for those presenters that only want to show a deck or slideshow without confusing the attendees with other applications. This is also convenient for keeping confidential information hidden.
Zoom has also improved the functionality of their waiting room solution. With Zoom rooms, participants can wait for a meeting to begin or can be sent there when confidential information is being discussed. The new functionality will allow hosts to send messages to these waiting room attendees with a click of an in-UI button.
These are one-way messages, so it won’t be disruptive to the processes of the video meeting. The basic waiting room experience is also being enhanced so that there’s support for waiting rooms as a host as well as a participant.
For global organizations, many attendees may bring their own interpreters to the conference or webinar. This can cause some concepts to be lost in translation. However, with the new simultaneous interpretation feature, Zoom video communications adds the original audio alongside the interpretation, which will allow listeners to pick up on tonal cues during the conference/webinar.
Zoom is known for its HD audio quality, but sometimes, excess noise from the presenter’s room can be picked up. To help improve the audio experience, Zoom is implementing an advanced noise suppression feature that can cancel out background noise during meetings.
Zoom provides a robust call recording functionality that is offered to all paid subscribers – there’s even a function to record text. Still, for the sake of confidentiality, it’s crucial for solutions like these to have explicit consent practices when recording. A new feature for Zoom meetings will allow administrators to customize the consent pop-up – as long as they have Zoom 4.6.0 or later.
Finally, for both Zoom Meetings and Zoom Chat, users will be able to upload and share files from their Box accounts. Box is a business-grade storage platform that also presents unique collaboration, and workflow functionality, so easy integration with Zoom presents a great way to securely share files while in a meeting or a chat.
Audio Communication Enhancements for Zoom Phone
We love Zoom Voice for cloud-based communications. Zoom, at its core, is a communications solution that provides reliable telephony for both your team collaboration processes and for your team’s customer outreach. To augment this baseline communications functionality, the Zoom Phone service has been upgraded to provide availability in Ireland, New Zealand, and Puerto Rico, and beta testing has been introduced into Austrian, Belgian, French, Dutch, Danish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, and Swiss markets.
In addition, for those looking for extended integrations with other cloud-based options, Zoom now also has network peering with Genesys cloud contact center solutions. This will allow for easy call routing to these types of cloud contact centers.
Zoom allows for participants in meetings to dial in from anywhere regardless of whether they’re using an Android, an iPhone, or if they’re stuck at their desk making phone calls. Voice call quality improvements, enhanced voicemail, and mobile apps mean a consistent and reliable platform for business communications.
Executing a large system deployment of a Zoom Phone system? If so, administrators can define specific Zoom IP deskphone templates that can differ throughout an organization with unique phone numbers and interfaces. This can simplify the process of using Zoom with your on-site SIP or PBX cloud phone system significantly.
The Zoom Meeting and Communication Platform is Continuously Improving
Each of these features will undoubtedly enhance the communications experience for SMBs, and each is easily implemented thanks to Zoom’s very user-friendly design. Additional features like support for Korean, new app implementation on the Zoom Marketplace, and managed domain improvements firmly illustrates the company’s devotion to keeping the experience up-to-date and competitive for business users.
